Sunflowers - The reason sunflowers are called sunflowers is because of their likeness to the sun and botanists call them helianthus. Helios which means sun and anthos which means flower. They also follow the sun every day that's why the French call them turniso, which means turn the sun.
The sunflower is an annual plant native to the Americas. It possesses a large flowering head, and its name derived from the flowers shape and image, which is often used to depict the sun. The heads of the sunflower consist of many individual flowers which mature into seeds.
The sunflower is the state flower of the state of Kansas and is also the national flower of the Ukraine.
